A recent excavation by the Department of Antiquities of Jordan unearthed a basalt statue of an Ammonite king from the Iron Age (circa 1,150-550 BC). Professor Joel S. Burnett said that this major archaeological find is “the only one of its kind discovered east or west of the Jordan River”.
