One Year After Tourism Cares with Jordan
It has been one year since Tourism Cares with Jordan and we want to share the ripple effects of our collective efforts to connect social enterprises in Jordan to the tourism market.
Iraq Al Amir are using grants from the Treadright Foundation and the Tollman family to renovate their showroom and kitchen. The Iraq Al Amir team also received a grant from the Travel Corporation's local DMC to support their operations and their expansion. More importantly, they’re on the path to financial sustainability as they prepare to host 2,643 tourists in 2019 through Trafalgar, Insight Vacations, Contiki, Uniworld, Adventure World, African Travel, and Lion World. This number is expected to grow over the next months. Watch this beautiful video the Treadright Foundation made for a peek at how these ripples are already affecting lives of many.
Al Numeira Environmental Association received support from Planeterra for capacity building on experience development, food hygiene and safety, and guiding—as well as a grant to rebuild their kitchen after an unfortunate fire burnt it down. Thanks to this partnership, Numeira has signed a contract with G Adventures— bringing them over 2300 guests in 2019 alone— with annual growth expected. They have even been able to hire an additional 12 employees from the community.
Wadi Araba Cycling, locally owned and run by Ahmad Gawasmeh, has been operating since 2017 with a donation of 169 bikes from A&K Philanthropy and the Bob Whitley Fund, which he repaired and maintained. He has sold and rented out bikes to the local community, and reinvested the revenue into his shop for upgrades, tools for repair, and accessories to sell. He has solved a big problem for the farmers in the area that now use their new bikes for transportation.
USAID Jordan Local Enterprise Support Project is funding an additional 6 enterprises from the Meaningful Travel Map to ensure they meet the standards of international travel operators by developing their business structure and increasing market readiness.
In addition to presentations at USTOA, SYTA, NTA, Air Canada's Annual Sales Meeting, Valerie Wilson Travel, Tauck Headquarters--and upcoming at the US Travel Insurance Association and WTTC, Tourism Cares with Jordan was also highlighted in various press outlets.
Thank you to all who helped these presentations and articles happen. A ripple of awareness affects our impact.

“It was an unbelievable trip. It was pretty amazing to visit the spot where John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ. I’ve been to a lot of places, but Jordan was one of the most fantastic. Jordan is one of the most exotic places I have ever been. It was even more special because my son was with me. Mostly what we took away from Jordan were memories, incredible memories.” - Dean Cain, March 2018
“It was amazing in Wadi rum to sleep in the desert in secure tents watching the sun go down then get up the next morning to watch it come up very magical. You see a lot of Jordan lovely people always helpful.” -Barbara, December 2018
