“Visited Jordan this week, so much to see and experience! We visited the site where John the Baptist baptized Jesus, Petra and all its fascinations, camels, and the spot where the big boulder comes rolling out of Indiana Jones. So much history there in the ‘Rose City,’ voted one of the 7 new wonders of the world. It takes 3 days to really see it all, we only spent 3 hours. Put it on your must see list if you haven’t already!” — Oprah Winfrey, March 2023
Seeking Silence in Wadi Rum
Wadi Rum is my special place. Over the past six years of traveling to Jordan regularly, I’ve returned to this desert nearly a dozen times. I’m drawn to the expansive landscape of limestone and granite mountains arising from the yellow, white, and red sands. I’ve made friends with members of the Bedouin community who call the desert home. I love the excuse of not getting good Wi-Fi service to stop constantly checking my email and social media.
The Rise of Jordan's Film Industry: Two Films Selected for Cannes
For the 76th edition of the festival, and for the first time ever, will see the participation of two Jordanian films for the first time in the history of Jordanian cinema, despite the longstanding presence of the Kingdom’s booth promoting cinema activities, the local film scene, filming locations, production, and facilities provided by Jordan.
Deserts, Dunes and Red Sea: Why there’s so much more to Jordan than Petra
Wonders of the World have a tendency to hog the spotlight. When most people think of Peru, for example, Machu Picchu automatically floats to the top of imaginations and itineraries alike. There’s nothing wrong with this, of course. But aren’t we doing the greater destinations a disservice by always fluttering moth-like towards those brightest of lights? This is something I was pondering before a recent visit to Jordan, home to another of the New Seven Wonders – the ancient Nabatean city of Petra.
New York Times Recommends Jordan's 'The Alleys' as International Film Pick
The New York Times has listed the Jordanian film “The Alleys”, directed by Basil Ghandour, as one of this month’s recommended international films for streaming on digital platforms. The film has also received critical acclaim and praise from international critics and websites.
Jordan's Wadi Rum Trail opens up old Bedouin hiking routes
A new walking trail aims to bring 'slower' tourism to a region famed for its ancient pilgrim routes and Bedouin culture. Jordan’s southern border is a land of sweeping valleys, sandstone hills and imposing mountains crowned by peaks overlooking vast, remote deserts. The route, formally inaugurated last February, connects along a 120km-long network of ancient shepherd, hunting, trade and travel routes, sections of the Hajj path to Mecca, old caravan roads, and some of the earliest climbing lines.
The Largest and First Digital Art Festival in Jordan
The Petra Light Festival is an unparalleled projection mapping experience that transforms the world wonder into a canvas for stunning and creative works of art. The festival ran from April 28 - May 3 and as the largest festival of its kind in the region, it drew in visitors from all over the world to experience the beauty and heritage of Petra in a whole new light.
But the Petra Light Festival was more than just a celebration of art and technology, it was also a commitment to the community and a drive to revitalize the city through the power of the arts.
