“Visited Jordan this week, so much to see and experience! We visited the site where John the Baptist baptized Jesus, Petra and all its fascinations, camels, and the spot where the big boulder comes rolling out of Indiana Jones. So much history there in the ‘Rose City,’ voted one of the 7 new wonders of the world. It takes 3 days to really see it all, we only spent 3 hours. Put it on your must see list if you haven’t already!” — Oprah Winfrey
Jordan: Up Close & Personal
I recently returned from an extraordinary 10-day journey to Jordan with my JTBNA team and a fantastic group of travel leaders from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Unlike our usual trips, this one was carefully curated, offering invaluable insights into the Jordan of today amid ongoing conflicts in neighboring regions.
I was not concerned about feeling safe in Jordan; the country is stable even when its “neighborhood” is not. But, the trip was planned during a time when the United States announced that there would be a series of military actions and retaliations, and media pundits were predicting massive regional instability that would closely coincide with our arrival. Above all else, I pondered whether the timing was right for us to go because of the inevitable question I could predict from others, and felt myself asking: “How can you travel when so many people are suffering nearby?”
Now, I believe the timing was right – gathering first-person experiences and engaging in conversations that would not make it into a 24-hour news cycle are what is needed to better understand the nuances of the situation, and the impacts beyond the war itself. And that is what we did, because when our friends and colleagues in Jordan ask for help, we show up.
"You Are So Welcome:" The Amazing Hospitality of Jordan
Tourism to Jordan has plummeted since the onset of the war in Gaza. That’s not surprising considering the graphic television coverage of a terrible conflict that reflects the worst of human nature. But while Jordan lives in a very noisy neighborhood, it is not at war with anyone, and the situation on the ground here is calm. I literally have not heard a siren, seen very little police or military presence, and the streets are filled with people going about their lives without fear.
My Jordan Food Journey: Stuffed With Goodness, Three Meals A Day
Our Jordanian food journey began on arrival. The flight from Canada came in late, so we quickly dropped our bags at the St. Regis Amman and were whisked to join the rest of the group at Sufra, where Jordanian cuisine reigns supreme. We had barely sat down before a team of servers loaded the table with dishes. Bread straight out of the oven, salads and dips and vegetable dishes and juicy skewers of beef, lamb and chicken.

Going Beyond Jordan's Landscapes with AdventureELEVATE Near East
“When you see pictures of Jordan, you have this impression of a very rugged, very barren land. Then you dig a little deeper and you find the green line of trees underneath which there is the water flowing, and there is so much more to this surface. And it’s the same with the people.”
